Coastal Permit Coordinator
We're seeking a detail-oriented Coastal Permit Coordinator to join our growing team. In this role, you'll help clients navigate the coastal development permit process, preparing and submitting applications, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and ensuring successful permit outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and submit coastal development permit applications for various project types
- Coordinate with local planning departments and the California Coastal Commission
- Track permit progress and respond to agency requests for information
- Conduct site visits to assess property conditions and constraints
- Research local coastal programs and applicable regulations
- Assist with client communications and project management
- Prepare for and attend public hearings as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, or related field
- 2-5 years of experience with land use permitting, preferably in coastal jurisdictions
- Knowledge of the California Coastal Act and local coastal programs
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS software
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout California
Permit Analyst
We're looking for an experienced Permit Analyst to evaluate project feasibility, identify regulatory requirements, and develop strategic approaches to complex coastal permitting challenges. This role requires in-depth knowledge of coastal regulations and strong analytical skills.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive regulatory analyses for coastal development projects
- Identify potential constraints and develop strategic permitting approaches
- Research and interpret complex coastal regulations and precedents
- Prepare detailed feasibility reports and permitting roadmaps
- Develop justification statements and policy consistency analyses
- Coordinate with technical consultants on specialized studies
- Represent clients in agency consultations and negotiations
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Policy, or related field
- 3-7 years of experience in coastal planning, permitting, or regulatory compliance
- In-depth knowledge of the California Coastal Act and certified Local Coastal Programs
- Experience with CEQA/environmental review processes
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent technical writing skills
- Experience with regulatory agency coordination and negotiation
Software Engineer
We're seeking a talented Software Engineer to help develop and maintain our proprietary coastal permit management and GIS systems. This role combines programming skills with an interest in environmental regulation and land use planning.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain web-based tools for coastal permit processing and tracking
- Create and optimize GIS-based applications for coastal zone analysis
- Implement data visualization solutions for regulatory information
- Integrate with government databases and permitting systems
- Develop and maintain internal workflow management systems
- Ensure data security and privacy compliance
- Collaborate with permit specialists to create user-friendly technical solutions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- 2-5 years of experience in software development
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, and web development frameworks
- Experience with GIS systems and spatial data analysis
- Database design and management skills
- Understanding of UI/UX principles
- Interest in environmental regulation and permitting (experience a plus)
Architectural Designer
We're looking for a creative and technically skilled Architectural Designer with experience in coastal projects. In this role, you'll create designs that meet client needs while adhering to coastal zone regulations, helping to streamline the permit approval process.
Responsibilities:
- Develop architectural designs compliant with coastal regulations
- Create site plans, elevations, floor plans, and renderings
- Conduct site visits to assess property conditions and constraints
- Incorporate coastal hazard considerations into design solutions
- Prepare visual analyses and view simulations
- Coordinate with engineers and other technical consultants
- Present designs to clients and regulatory agencies
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field
- 3-7 years of architectural design experience, preferably with coastal projects
- Knowledge of California building codes and coastal design requirements
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and visualization software
- Understanding of sustainable design principles
- Strong visual communication and presentation skills
- License or progress toward architectural licensure preferred
